Face painting is a common (and somewhat controversial) practice at Dia de los Muertos celebrations. These four photos show the skill, creativity, and patience involved at San Francisco’s Mission District festival in 2018. In the final artwork, I printed them 5×7″, matted in a 2×2 grid, and mounted in a 16×20″ frame to make a photo essay. I was happy with a 2nd place at the 2019 San Mateo County Fair competition.
