Oil Drops

Oil Drops

This is the result of a series of experiments in macro photography. Dyed oil is dropped carefully into a small glass tank with water on the bottom and a layer of isopropyl alcohol on top. Different densities cause the drops to move downward to the interface between the two layers and, crucially, they keep their spherical shape. A camera with a macro lens captures them in suspension. They refract light from a flowery piece of fabric in the background.
